Betul Fort
- Built: 1679 by Shivaji’s commander, the Hawaldar of Balli
- Purpose: Controlled trade on River Sal; later converted into a Portuguese customs house

- History: one of South Goa’s most popular forts, is known for its beach and Betul village. The fort was built in 1679 under the guidance of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s Maharaj. It provides panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the River Sal. In addition, the fort has the appearance of an abandoned archaeological site. So, you can come here for some peace as the cool sea wind will refresh you. Then, you may take a stroll along the beach to see the beautiful sunset and sunrise.
A stroll through a small traditional village at the mouth of the Sal River will also be relaxing. It provides a glimpse into the rapidly deteriorating Betul Fort Goa. However, the government managed to bring it back from the brink of extinction. The famous 17th century Betul Fort, built by Shivaji associates. The view from the fort bastion on the River Sal’s southern bank is spectacular. River Sal drains into the Arabian Sea. However, this place is also well known for its history, mountains, and sea breeze.
